Get God – when our pet’s health is out of our hands

As pet owners, we know we sign up for unconditional love.  They adore us and we adore them right back.

If you have ever owned a pet, then you know that when your pet has health issues or is facing “geriatric” conditions we go from being their loving master and friend to being their caregiver.   It’s easy to love them when their healthy and vibrant, but when they are ill or “senior” they need us to kick our love into high gear.   It’s the hard times that demonstrate just how much we love them and how much we have appreciated their love and faithfulness.

Many of us that are fortunate enough to have our dogs age from puppies to seniors, face one of the hardest decisions of our lives… euthanization.

Even though we can see that our pet is beginning to fail, most of us will do everything within our means to save them.   We take them to the veterinarian, we improve their diet and exercise plans, we buy them more comfortable beds and accessories but the inevitable will come.   When death is near, it is always best to consult with your veterinarian and ask for their guidance.  Usually, they will tell you when “it’s time” and although you will still fight it, that’s when you have to face the fact that you will outlive your faithful pet.    It’s best to be as strong as you can be, bring a loved one with you and your faithful pet to the veterinarian’s office  and let them do what they must do to assist your pet through the process of eternal peace.

Here’s a poem to help you heal.

I Loved You Best

So this is where we part, My Friend,
And you’ll run on, around the bend.
Gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you’ll surely find.

I will go on; I’ll find the strength,
Life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
Share one last look, before I grieve.

There are others, that much is true,
But they be they, and they aren’t you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
Will remember well all you’ve taught.

Your place I’ll hold, you will be missed,
The fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
Take with you this…I loved you best.
